Things I Read/Played/Watched In 2025
BOOKS
Wind and Truth (1/25, Brandon Sanderson) - is it heavy-handed and a bit Marvel-coded at times? Sure, but man, these books are just like mainlining a dose of CBT and always seem to be exactly when I need them. Loved it.
The Dresden Files (series, Jim Butcher) - started 1/25. Very goofy magic noir. Think this extremely long series will serve as my bedtime audiobook for a while. I am mostly half-listening to these but it's got a silly charm, especially as narrated by James Marsters.
- 1: Storm Front
- 2: Fool Moon
- 3: Grave Peril
- Still haven't been able to get a copy of 4, Summer Knights
- 5: Death Masks
- 6: Blood Rites
- 7: Dead Beat
Borne (sort of a series, Jeff Vandermeer) - another haunting postapocalyptic tale from Vandermeer, a vision of a future where humanity has mostly finished eating itself. There's a lot interesting here - reading Borne as an avatar of capital - but Vandermeer still feels a bit too dour to me sometimes. Ending is a bit hopeful, at least. Maybe we can build something new in the ashes.
The Collapsing Empire Trilogy (John Scalzi) - started 1/25.
- The Collapsing Empire: Read 1/25. Fun space opera, the wormholes are moving and everyone is doing plots to come out on top when the "interdependency" eventually fails. Definitely liking this better than Scalzi's kaiju book.
- The Consuming Fire: Read 1/25. Sequel to The Collapsing Empire. It's still a fine space opera.
- The Last Emperox: Read 2/25. Nothing new to add. It's all fine if unmemorable.
