Exploring the ATmosphere
I need a day's break from code after going down the did:web rabbit hole this week, and I'm short on time, so today I'm just exploring some non-Bluesky atproto stuff I've either bookmarked or meant to check out and writing down quick notes for future reference. Let this serve as proof that I am committed to doing something every day even if it's low-effort.
Apps
slices.network: this is an automated appview builder that I'm really interested to try, not least because it would give me a chance to validate some of my theories about the weirdness I experienced with did:web . Waitlisted for now.
leaflet.pub: a combo blog/github gist service with a fun UI. This and tangled.sh have arguably gotten the most traction of the non-Bluesky apps. Seems like a fun option
whtwnd: another blogging service. Its UI is very 2014-coded and I think signing up for one blogging service on top of my existing blog is enough for right now but some big players are using it (Bryan Newbold's blog is there!).
tangled: ATproto's answer to Github. I haven't explored it enough to have strong opinions about it, and I hope it works out, but it's definitely in alpha - I failed at attempting to create a test repo because I need something called a "knot" to actually host the code but none are available.
graze.social - feed creator. Seems to be one of the more professional ATProto services (I actually had to agree to their terms of use). Saving this one for another day where I don't feel like actually writing code.
roomy.chat - chat platform. It uses digital gardening language, which I've been very clear about my distaste for, but the devs have written some interesting stuff and I'm curious about how this works in practice.
Tools
Red Dwarf/Constellation - Bluesky viewers that don't rely on AppViews at all. These are also potentially interesting paths to go down for understanding some of the did/decentralization stuff better.
FujoCoded - Came across this on AT Protocol dev blog and, while I don't expect to use any of these tools anytime soon, I'm absolutely tickled that the fujoshis are getting into ATProto. Good for them.
konbini - local AppView, another thing to potentially help with understanding how the Bluesky AppView behaves. This is the type of tooling I want to see more of!
To prove that this is still protocol-related, let's check out my profile on PDSLS to see what new lexicons (lexica?) signing up for these things created:

I still kinda can't get over an ecosystem where everything just publishes to an open API. It's so cool, even if I guess everyone will know forever that slices waitlisted me. 'Til next time.
