Letter of Recommendation: Oshi-Gokko

Keeping today's post short and sweet. I went to the launch party for Oshi-Gokko at WonderVille last night, which was a whole lot of fun, and played in my first games tournament in ages. I got washed in the first round but I did lose to the eventual winner of the tournament so I'll call that a win. I am biased on this one, since my friend Mat was one of the lead devs on the game, but I think it's a really delightful two-player arcade cab and a great addition to the Arcade Commons collection.

The game's a sit-down cab that pulls mechanically from classics like Pac-Man and Frogger but manages to stake out its own territory as a competitive chase. One player is a celebrity trying to avoid the other player's rabid fan. There are simple powerups - energy drinks for speed, a disguise for the celeb, and a telephoto lens for the fan. You spend a lot of the game chasing each other around and getting knocked all over the map by traffic. It's simple, easy to pick up, and a lot of fun. A great game for shouting at a friend over a few beers. I'm looking forward to being able to play it at Wonderville for a while.
